OUR PIGS

Quality Mindset

Livestock is the focus of our operation. We prefer to work with heritage breed pigs and cattle, which provide us with quality taste and tenderness we require to ensure an incredible eating experience for you and your family.

On the home farm our sows and boars live outside with constant access to a cozy shelter for sleeping and protection from the elements. The sows give birth in a building specially equipped with individual pends to provide a safe place for them to raise their litters. Each pen provides a creep area for the piglets complete with supplemental heat to keep everyone comfortable. These pens are also large enough for each sow to move entirely around her pen during her four week stay.

After weaning, the piglets are housed in groups in a building called the nursery for six weeks before being moved outside, or transitioning to a separate finishing building (weather dependent).

Total time from birth to harvest is approximately 7 months for pigs. During their time on our farm, they are fed eight different rations, each tailored to their nutritional needs at specific points in development. The quantities of the ingredients change, but the components are the same.

OUR COWS

Labor of Love

The cows on our farm spend the bulk of their time grazing. Int he summer, they are rotationally grazed across our pasture. During the fall and winter, they are rotated on cornstalk fields where they pick up leaves, husks, and ears of corn left from the past seasons harvest.
When the ground begins to thaw in early March, the cows are fed hay until the grass is ready to be grazed again, typically by the beginning of May. This is also the exciting time of year when new baby calves are born.
The calves graze with their mothers until they are weaned at 7 months old.
At 7 months, they are transitioned onto a feed mixture. Total time from birth to harvest is approximately 16-18 months.
